The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn't have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

** spoiler alert ** This Review contains spoilers.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. What were Amber's motives? What was she running from? I thought that was the twist to the book. This led me to think that some aspects of part 1 were unbelievable at the time. Jackson would not cheat on Daphne so easily because they were very much in love. Daphne would not just give up so easily. I was thinking it was all just a bit too easy for Amber to get her way. Then the author(s) hit me with part 2 and the same story from Daphne's perspective. Aagh, it all makes sense now and is 100% believable.

I thought Daphne was such a weak, controlling character at first and disliked Bella and the way she was not disciplined. I loved how my opinion of her character completely flipped on it's head once I started seeing the story from her point of view. So much sympathy for both these characters in the end.

Then the author(s) added the final, extra twist at the end and I almost cheered for Daphne. Did I feel any sympathy for Amber at all? Absolutely not. She set out to destroy a marriage and family, which, from the outside, she achieved.

It is a classic tale of "Be careful what you wish for" and "one never knows what is going on behind closed doors, so be careful not to judge others".
